Lasswade XC - Gorebridge 2/11/08
Several D&G athletes travelled to Gorebridge. It stayed dry but the course was very muddy, making it a challenging run.
In the Under 11 Boys, Euan Penrice (Stewartry AC) and Angus Johnstone (Nithsdale AC) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Euan finished in 5:58, six seconds behind the winner while Angus was just three seconds behind Euan.
Euan's big sister Laura placed 7th in a highly competitive Under 13 Girls race. Her time was 15:33. Meanwhile, Jacqueline Pringle (Stewartry AC) finished her first race of the season in 27th in a time of 17:07.
Daniel Gibson (Nithsdale AC) braved the conditions in the Under 13 boys race to finish 28th (17:42). This was a big change from his usual throwing events!
Danielle Beattie (Nithsdale AC) ran impressively to finish 6th (15:11) in a tough Under 15 girls race. With the likes of Alice Haining, Halina Rees and Kathryn Pennel running, it was always going to be tough to get on the podium.
Chris Ponton (Nithsdale AC) ran solidly to finish 7th (21:09), although he was well behind the first 6.
The muddy conditions didn't deter Nicola Hood (VP-Glasgow) who won the Under 17 and Under 20 women's race by a large margin. Her time was 19:14 for 3 miles. The runner-up finished in 19:51. Also in that race was Stephanie Lawrie (Nithsdale AC). In her first race of the season she finished 5th (3rd Under 17) in a time of 24:18. She was given the same time as the runner in front but was just pipped on the line.
The final runner was David Vernon (Nithsdale AC) in the the Under 17 men's race. It was also his first race of the season and he ran well to finish 3rd (22:55) against tough opposition.
