NJAL Match 3 - Northern Premier
Manchester
14/06/09
Hope Robertson (Edinburgh AC), Kirsty Barr and Nicola Hood (VP-Glasgow) competed for Team Edinburgh and Team Glasgow respectively in the 3rd out of 4 rounds in the National Junior League.
Nicola had the most successful day with 2 PBs in the 800m and 1500m S/C. In her first 800m for 3 years, she did well to stick with the leaders and finished an excellent 3rd in 2:15.29. In the chase, she displayed good form ahead of the European Junior Trials in 2 weeks time with a new PB and an emphatic victory. She took another 4 seconds from her PB set in Liverpool in April with 5:00.63, giving her an 18 second lead, although just outside the 5 minute barrier.
Kirsty also produced a PB in the 100m Hurdles. Her previous best of 16.46 was wind assisted but on this occasion, Kirsty ran 16.45 into a -0.7 wind, showing signs of more to come. She was 2nd in the B final. Kirsty also cleared 1.60m in the HJ. This gave her 2nd place. She jumped the same height as Edinburgh AC's Emma Lowry but lost back on countback.
Team Glasgow finished 2nd in the match behind Sale Harriers Manchester, 480 points to 478 points, while Team Edinburgh were 3rd with 439 points.
Hope was clearly feeling the effects of the Scottish Schools Champs which had taken place the two previous days. In the 100m, she was 2nd in 12.53, which was a good result into a -1.7 wind. The effects of the Championships showed more clearly in the 200m, where she was 4th in 25.80, although it was into a -2.6 headwind.
