National Junior Athletics League Match 2 - 24/05/2009 Grangemouth
Kirsty Barr (VP-Glasgow), Josh Crawford and Hope Robertson (both Edinburgh AC) competed at the second league meeting of the season for Team Glasgow and Team Edinburgh respectively.
Hope was the most successful with 2 wins in the 100m and 4x100m Relay and 2nd in the 200m. Unlike the opening match, the wind was behind the sprinters and this lead to most times being wind assisted. In the 100m, Hope ran well to edge out Liverpool's Carmen Gedling. Her winning time was 12.40, which was a season's best, albeit with a +3.8 wind. In the 200m, Hope finished a decent 2nd in 25.49w but will be disappointed to have been beaten by Under 17 Bethanie Finlayson (Pitreavie AC), who has never run under 26 seconds without being wind assisted. In the 4x100m Relay, Hope joined forces with Sarah Warnock, Lesley Campbell and Erin Froude to win in 49.38.
Kirsty's best performance of the day perhaps came in the 100m Hurdles, where she was competing in this event for the first time. She placed a good 2nd in the B String with a time of 16.46w. In the High Jump, she continued her recent form with a 1.60m clearance. This was the height of the winning jump but unfortunately Kirsty placed 3rd on countback. She also competed in the 4x100m Relay with Chloe Lambert, Andrea Gaffney and Heather Rankine. The team finished 5th in 51.32.
Josh competed in the 200m B string individually. He ran well to finish 2nd in 22.72w, unfortunately with a +2.8 wind reading. He also took part in the short relay with Allan Hamilton, Matthew Jones and Sean Hood. They finished 2nd in 43.65.
At the end of the day, it was Team Edinburgh who secured victory with 496 points with Team Glasgow just behind with 457.5.
CSSAL Division 1 Match 2 - Wishaw 24/05/2009
Laura and Euan Penrice (Shettleston Harriers) competed in the 1500m in the Under 15 Girls and Under 13 Boys races.
Laura ran extremely well to finish 2nd in the A string with a massive PB of 5:19.8. This was nearly a nine second improvement on her previous best.
Euan also ran well, finishing 3rd in the B String. His time of 5:30.6 was a bit off his PB of 5:20.69, set at last week's Young Athletes League.
