Kirsty Yates (Stewartry AC) finished in a disappointing 3rd place in the Shot, only managing a throw nearly a metre down on her best. She threw a best of 11.67m, well down on her 12.51m outdoor best. The top two throws were 12.17m and 11.93m respectively, distances that Kirsty is capable of managing. Kirsty will compete in the Celtic Games on the 1st August.

Kirsty would have been a contender, had she not been on international duty, so instead it was up to Jane Scott (Stewartry AC) and Carly McCrindle (Nithsdale AC) to fly the region's flag.
Jane competed in the Senior Women's Heptathlon. She started the day well with 15.72 in the 100m Hurdles, 0.19 seconds away from her PB. She then jumped a brilliant 1.57m PB in the HJ, placing 3= overall in the event. The came a weak event, the Shot Put. Jane managed a respectable 6.58m, a PB. The final event of the day was the 200m, where Jane finished 4th in 27.58, also a PB.
Carly finished Day 1 in 4th place overall in the Under 17 Women's Heptathlon after some good performances. She was 4th in the Hurdles with 14.58, 3= in the High Jump with 1.47m, 4th in the Shot with 6.61m and 4th in the 200m with a PB of 31.86.
Day Two began well for both athletes with PBs in the Long Jump. Jane finished 1st overall with a 5.62m leap, while Carly was 4th again with 4.16m. Next came the Javelin, a weaker event for both of them. Carly had the better throw with 16.73m PB. Jane also got a PB with 14.77m. Finally it was the 800m, another dreaded event for many heptathletes. Jane was 6th with 2:46.47 (PB), meaning she finished 5th in her competition with a PB of 3850 points. Carly was 3rd in her race with 2:56.67, and moved up to 3rd place, taking a well-deserved bronze medal with 2681 points.
