Nicola Hood (VP-Glasgow) had an eventful competition in her first championships in a GB vest.
Conditions were not great for the endurance athletes, with temperatures reaching the high 30s. She spent most of the time in 7th place, before moving up into the top 5. With 4 to qualify, she reeled in 4th place on the last lap and sprinted to take 3rd on the line in 10:27.31. However, the conditons took their toll, as Nicola collapsed on the track but was revived by ice packs and water.
"I sprinted at the end because I wasn't sure how close the fourth place girl was and I certainly didn't want to look back and check. It was just seconds off my PB so I'm disappointed but I'm also so pleased to be in the final. I'm ranked fifth in the rankings coming here so I would be aiming for a top 5 finish."
Her hopes were dashed in the final, however, following a fall but she battled on to finish 10th in 10:34.68.
