West District XC - 6/12/08 Irvine
Nicola Hood (VP-Glasgow) defended her West District title in fine style. Elke Schmidt (Bellahouston Road Runners) set the early pace but Nicola reeled her in and won by 15 seconds over Danielle Brown (Springburn Harriers). Her time was 22:44. The VP-Glasgow team also won silver, missing out on gold by 3 points. The winners were Kilbarchan AAC.
Elsewhere, Jacqueline Pringle (Stewartry AC) came 23rd (12:07) in the Under 13 Girls race. Melissa McCrindle (Nithsdale AC) ran well to finish 35th (12:38) in the same race.
In the Under 15 Boys, David Sloan (Nithsdale AC) finished 20th (16:23). It was a tough race and in the end it was too tough for Chris Ponton (Nithsdale AC) who was forced to pull out.
Joanna Muir (Stewartry AC) added a silver medal to her collection, finishing 2nd (17:09) in the Under 15 girls race, 13 seconds behind winner, Sarah Cassells. Katy Brown (Stewartry AC) and Danielle Beattie (Nithsdale AC) also had good races, finishing 8th (17:51) and 11th (17:59) respectively. There is a good chance that all 3 girls will make the West District team. In the Under 17s race at the same time, Stephanie Lawrie (Nithsdale AC) had to stop due to breathing difficulties but courgeously battled to the finish, placing 18th (23:31).
David Vernon (Nithsdale AC) finished 3rd (21:03) in the Under 17s Men's race. He couldn't quite keep up with the pace of Callum Hawkins (Kilbarchan) and Lachlan Oates (Shettleston Harriers) but he will definitely be looking to win next year. Kyle McLellan (Nithsdale AC) ran well to finish 5th (21:16). This was a good result as he took some scalps in the shape of Andrew Dearie (Shettleston Harriers) and Stewart Orr (RonHill Cambuslang). Kyle's twin, Ronan struggled but still managed to finish a credible 23rd (23:52). Their efforts paid off as they all got a bronze team medal. Digger Clark (Galloway Harriers) also ran finishing 28th (25:48)
Cumbria League - 6/12/08 - Keswick
Euan Penrice (Stewartry AC) continued his good form by winning the Under 11 Boys race by 10 seconds in 6:41. He was the only D&G runner.
